We don’t have to wait any longer, now: new details are finally trickling down to the Bugatti Chiron successor, and they’ve definitely whetted our appetites. The new car, which may debut in 2023, will boast a hybrid powertrain, and “not a single part will be taken over from any car,” said Mate Rimac, CEO of Bugatti-Rimac, recently in an interview with Auto Express. . Rimac later told the outlet that his tech company actually started working on an engine for a successor to the Chiron about two years ago.

It was then that he first entered into talks with the Volkswagen Group about starting a joint venture with Bugatti; in July 2021, both companies announced that they had formalized the Bugatti-Rimac JV. Under the current arrangement, Rimac owns 55 percent of Bugatti, with the remaining 45 percent going to Porsche. Incidentally, Porsche also has a 24 percent stake in Rimac itself.

The need for a new powerplant was obvious, especially considering that Bugatti was planning to retire its famous 8.0-liter quad-turbo engine. The rugged W16, introduced with the Veyron in 2005, is being phased out with the upcoming Chiron-based Mistral roadster.

What’s more interesting, however, is that it was Mate Rimac who insisted on a hybrid power plant to replace the Chiron. Bugatti senior executives were apparently considering an all-electric Bugatti crossover before Rimac convinced them otherwise.

Not only that. The young CEO also confirmed that the combustion engine will continue to be part of the Bugatti brand for “the foreseeable future”. Interestingly, Mate, whose company is known for building hypercars driven by cutting-edge EV technology, still sees value in fossil-powered engines – at least for now.

Rimac said Bugatti could unveil a replacement for the Chiron as early as next year. However, actual production is likely years away. More than 400 Chirons have been built out of the planned 500, and then there’s the upcoming Mistral roadster, of which there will be 99.

The focused finish in this treatment will return buyers $ 3.6 million, but it offers suspension upgrades, a lower weight of 110 pounds, and a rear spoiler that provides extra power down. Bugatti is working on a successor to its Chiron hypercar, a car. Mate Rimac, CEO of the Bugatti Rimac partnership, said in February it would be a hybrid and not an electric hypercar. That came as a surprise to a lot of people, considering that Rimac founded EV technology company Rimac.

Now Rimac has another surprise. In an interview with Auto Express published on Thursday, Rimac revealed that his technology company began developing engines for the Chiron successor two years ago, when he first spoke with the Volkswagen Group about taking over Bugatti and forming the Bugatti Rimac partnership.

The need for a new engine was obvious as Bugatti plans to phase out its famed 8.0-liter quad-turbo W-16, which it is now doing with the Chiron-based Mistral roadster, and Rimac is adamant it wants the Chiron’s successor to be a hybrid. In his interview with Auto Express, Rimac said Bugatti was planning an electric crossover as the successor to the Chiron, and that he had to convince senior management that a hybrid hypercar was the way to go.

“It wasn’t an easy time, but I knew exactly what I wanted from the next car (after the Chiron) and we started developing our own combustion engine,” he said. “We started developing the new combustion engine two years before we took over the company, something I don’t think anyone expected.”

The hybrid route will help differentiate future Bugattis from Rimac’s electric hypercar. According to Rimac, Bugattis will also continue to focus on craftsmanship, analogue dials and beautiful design, while Rimacs will continue a more modern route by injecting more technology such as an autonomous mode for drifting or running hot laps.

Rimac says Bugatti will have something to show next year. However, production of the Chiron’s successor will likely take several years to begin as Bugatti still has close to 100 Chirons to build, and will then have to build a planned 99 Mistrals.

Bugatti Chiron 2023

The 2023 Bugatti Chiron SUV project is gathering momentum and boss Stephan Winkelmann has fine-tuned some more details about the new, taller Bug type to expand the brand’s slim sports car lineup.

CAR magazine asked the president of Bugatti if there was still a market for very expensive luxury limousines. “Yes, but most customers of this type of car, especially women, want to sit up high so they can see outside,” he told us.

In a separate interview at the Frankfurt motor show, Winkelmann revealed that the new model will likely be a four-seat model with the ability to drive off-road.

All signs point to a taller, crossover-influenced sports car as the second model – but it’s not a traditional SUV, swears Winkelmann.

The design team, led by Etienne Salomé, worked hard to maintain the distinctive style DNA of the Chiron and Veyron and translate it into new body styles to satisfy the tastes of the world’s richest car buyers and collectors for the best of four-wheeled transportation.

CAR magazine has reported separate plans for a new Royale electric limousine based on the group’s EV hardware from the Porsche Taycan, but Molsheim now prefers the taller, more family-friendly Bugatti.

Winkelmann started the Urus SUV project while at Lamborghini, but he is on record stating ‘there will be no SUV from Bugatti’. Fair enough – but it does not rule out a sporty crossover with a higher seat position than the saloon, with a lower body and less boxy than a traditional SUV.

President Bugatti has given a price tag of around $ 1 million (£ 800,000) and admits he will consider a hybrid drivetrain for a variety of new additional models. He also ruled out an electric version of the Chiron, stating that “there is still plenty of time for an internal combustion engine.”

The idea is for a sexy two-door crossover, more compact than the Urus (below) and, crucially, much lighter. It will share a few components with the big Lambo, including the 641bhp V8, but with some serious hybridization to produce an output close to four figures.

“The new car will be the biggest and most expensive car in its sector,” said Winkelmann. ‘But it’s not the most expensive or extreme Bugatti. Chiron will always be on top. ‘

As a result, the yet-to-be-named Bugatti crossover has to outperform the Urus’s incredible performance, which hit 0-62mph in 3.6sec and v-maxes at 191mph.

Piloted by factory test driver Andy Wallace, a model with specs nearly identical to the Chiron Super Sport 300+ set a trial run record of 304,773 mph. With every model in the Chiron lineup, power is delivered to all four wheels with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

2023 Bugatti Chiron MPG

As expected from a car with a 1500-hp engine, the Chiron won’t win any points for being environmentally friendly. According to the EPA, the Chiron 2021 achieves a range (we hesitate to use the word “fuel economy”) of up to 9 mpg city and 14 mpg highway.

Pur Sport sees both numbers drop by 1 mpg. We haven’t run the 2023 Bugatti Chiron on our 75 mph highway fuel-efficient route, which is part of our extensive testing regimen, so we can’t evaluate mpg in the real world.

The Veyron Super Sport goes from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds and at the time of its launch, it was the fastest supercar on the market. The Veyron also set a top speed record.

Although not yet confirmed by the Molsheim-based brand, the SS will arrive sometime in 2020 for the 2021 model year. The wait is long for us supercars to be crazy, but Bugatti needs time to further develop the W-16 engine as well as tweak the new Chiron chassis.

2023 Bugatti Chiron Exterior

Like its predecessors, the 2023 Bugatti Chiron SuperSport will feature several design improvements, most of which are designed to improve the car’s aerodynamics.

However, while the Veyron SS is not that different from the standard Veyron, the Chiron SS will likely use a more radical body kit compared to the regular Chiron.

That’s mainly because the Bugatti may not be able to produce too much power from the already strengthened W-16 engine and a more aerodynamic body can help improve the Chiron’s acceleration and speed.

Up front, we expect the Chiron SS to get a bigger splitter, motorsport-inspired canards at the corners, and a ventilated hood. These three elements must increase downforce and help channel air more efficiently throughout the body.

On the sides, look for lighter wheels, carbon fiber, and stockier side skirts. Everything else should remain unchanged in this area visually, but Bugatti will most likely increase the vertical side vents to improve engine cooling. In addition, the supercar will also get a roof scoop.

Bigger changes had to be put into operation at the rear, with the biggest upgrade being a large, race-inspired wing. This will be a first for a modern Bugattis and a device that could make a huge difference to 2023 Bugatti Chiron aerodynamics.

The wings will be supported by a revised diffuser that will extend to the rear wheels, a ventilated hood, and a revised exhaust outlet.

Overall, the Chiron SS should be wild enough to behold and very different from the record-setting Veyron SS.

2023 Bugatti Chiron Engine

It’s safe to assume that the Chiron SS will get its juice from the same 8.0-liter W-16 that the Bugatti has been using since 2005, but it remains to be seen how much power the company’s engineers will have managed to extract from it.

The Veyron SS receives a 184-horsepower increase compared to the standard model for a total output of 1,184 horsepower, so it’s fair to assume that the Chiron SS could arrive with 1,600+ horsepower versus the Chiron’s 1,479 horsepower rating.

However, that may be easier said than done because a significantly more powerful engine will modify several parameters and require heavily revised components.

With that in mind, we’d expect Bugatti to increase the W-16’s output to just around 1,500 to 1,550 horses. And, while that doesn’t sound like much, it will be enough to make the Chiron SS even faster in conjunction with the new aerodynamic kit.

The 2023 Bugatti Chiron is said to hit 62 mph in “less than 2.5 seconds,” so we don’t have actual figures to work with, but the SS will probably be a tenth of a second faster. Arguably more important is top speed. While the 2023 Bugatti Chiron is expected to set a new world record at 261 mph, the SS will have to beat that and get close to the 271 mph mark.

2023 Bugatti Chiron Price

It’s too early to talk about prices, but SS will likely be the most expensive 2023 Bugatti Chiron. With a regular supercar priced from € 2.4 million (approximately $ 2.73 million) and a Grand Sport rumored to be likely to make at least € 2.8 million ($ 3.18 million), the Super Sport can cost over € 3. , 5 million (nearly $ 4 million).

SS will also be produced in very limited numbers, perhaps only 30 units required for the validation of the Guinness World Record. Bugatti can also launch a World Records edition limited to just five instances as was done with the Veyron SS.

There’s no infotainment screen, and features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities aren’t offered. Car infotainment facilities are pretty much limited to sound systems and travel computers.

On the plus side, the sound system provides impeccable sound quality and features four tweeters that each use a one-carat diamond membrane for precise output. That’s what you expect from a car that costs millions.

We don’t expect much change in the cabin. The interior of the Chiron SS should be identical to the standard model and include the organic lines that make up the dashboard, center console, and door panels, as well as the large amounts of leather, carbon fiber, and aluminum seen on the 2023 Bugatti Chiron.

Bugatti will probably make some features to help differentiate the SS but look no further than a pair of “SS” badges and a few snippets here and there. With a highly customizable 2023 Bugatti Chiron with almost endless possibilities as far as upholstery, trim, and materials go, each car will remain unique.
