Exclusive! 2024 Acura ZDX EV Luxurious SUV Review

Acura Precision EV Concept Detailed Review & Walkaround

2024 Acura ZDX EV Honda has been slower to adapt to electric vehicle production than many of its competitors. Honda and its luxury division Acura are yet to produce popular electric vehicles. The Acura ZDX electric SUV will be a game-changing model for the Japanese automaker.

The Acura ZDX 2024 is an upcoming electric SUV based on Acura’s Precision EV concept. Acura has not released any information about ZDX. So far, all the industry knows about the 2024 Acura ZDX EV is that it will be Acura’s first fully electric vehicle.

Honda entered into a partnership with General Motors to develop electric vehicles following the early success of the Chevy Bolt. General Motors is ahead of Japanese automakers when it comes to electric vehicle production, so Honda is partnering with the company to come up with the best EV they can do.

The 2024 Acura ZDX EV will be closely related to the 2024 Honda Prologue BEV SUV. As Acura vehicles are more expensive and luxurious than their Honda equivalents, expect the ZDX to be a cut above the final Honda Prologue trim level.

The top trim level of the 2024 Acura ZDX model will likely approach a driving range of 300 miles. The Equinox EV has a maximum horsepower output of 580 horses. The Acura ZDX is supposed to have the same horsepower as the compact electric SUV that GM is also developing (in part).

2024 Acura ZDX EV Review

Acura will launch its first fully electric vehicle in 2024, and when it arrives, it will have a familiar name: ZDX. Acura on Thursday confirmed it would be reviving the old love-it-or-hate-it SUV name for this new EV, and the company said a higher-performance 2024 Acura ZDX EV Type S variant is also on the cards.

The “Z” in “ZDX” is meant to signify “zero-emissions,” so it works with the -DX naming convention that Acura uses for its SUVs. “When we envisioned this vehicle, we didn’t think of it as a continuation from one model line to the next,” Emile Korkor, Acura’s assistant vice president of sales, told me in an interview. “The fact that it starts with a ‘Z’ is quite perfect.”

Acura confirmed its first EV, which will launch in 2024, will be called the 2024 Acura ZDX EV. The higher-performance ZDX Type S is also coming.

The ZDX will use the same electric architecture as the Honda Prologue, which was jointly developed with General Motors.

Acura will launch vehicles with its own EV architecture starting in 2026, with the goal of becoming a fully electric car manufacturer by 2040.

The original 2024 Acura ZDX EV was sold from 2009 to 2013, and frankly, it was ahead of its time. No, the style isn’t for everyone (I love it!), but it’s one of the original crossover coupes — the body style that’s in vogue these days. Korkor says the new ZDX will also be a very stylish vehicle, and its design language was previewed by the Acura Precision EV concept which also debuted during Monterey Car Week on Thursday.

When it goes on sale in 2024, the ZDX will use the same electric vehicle architecture as the upcoming Honda Prologue, which is being jointly developed with General Motors. The 2024 Acura ZDX EV will use GM’s Ultium battery technology and should be placed between the RDX and MDX crossovers in terms of size.

The 2024 Acura ZDX EV is the first major step in Acura’s electrification plan. By 2026, the company will launch vehicles based on its own EV architecture, with the goal of becoming a fully electric car maker by 2040.

2024 Acura ZDX EV News

Acura is cleaning up the old 2024 Acura ZDX EV moniker for use in the brand’s first electric crossover, which will arrive in 2024.

While the original ZDX was the ill-fated crossover coupe that was killed in 2013, the company had high hopes for the upcoming model as it would “feature many of the stylish themes” introduced to the Acura Precision EV concept.

The automaker kept the details private but said the 2024 Acura ZDX EV is being co-developed with GM and will use their Ultium platform that underpins the Cadillac Lyriq, Chevrolet Blazer EV, and GMC Hummer EV. Acura also confirmed plans for the ZDX Type S, which promises to put the “driver experience first.”

The 2024 Acura ZDX EV is currently being built by Acura Design Studio in Los Angeles, which also produced the original model. Emile Korkor, assistant vice president of Acura National Sales, stated the new crossover “represents the beginning of what will be an accelerated path to electrification by the end of this decade and the key role the Acura brand will play in our company’s global goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. ” He added, “Acura will remain focused on performance in the age of electrification and the Type S will continue to represent the pinnacle of this direction.”

Since the Acura ZDX 2024 will follow in the footsteps of the Precision EV concept, we can expect it to be a dynamically styled crossover featuring a fully enclosed Diamond Pentagon grille, which can incorporate lighting as seen in the concept. v can also have an eco-friendly interior as the concept uses recycled plastic and Forest Stewardship Council-certified wood trim.

2024 Acura ZDX EV Report

One of the most daring Acura ever made is back! Yes, the ZDX nameplate returns more than a decade after the Sportback SUV left the US market. Unlike the first style SUV, the new 2024 ZDX won’t share much with the MDX, and more importantly, it will be the brand’s first production electric car.

We expect the 2024 ZDX design to be a more refined version of the Acura Precision EV concept, shown here.

The Acura ZDX 2024 owes its existence to the partnership that Honda has with General Motors. Thanks to GM’s Ultium electric vehicle architecture, Acura will get a fully electric SUV in the form of the 2024 Acura ZDX EV while Honda adds the Prolog to its lineup. Given GM’s heavy investment in electric technology over the years, this may not be a bad thing for Honda and Acura, brands that are lagging behind while other brands—such as Audi and BMW—offer both gas-fueled and electric-powered vehicles.

Before Acura engineered its own future electric SUV, this GM-sourced technology means the 2024 ZDX will share more with the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV than some may realize. The new Chevrolet offers a number of configurations, with an overall driving range set to 320 miles. We suspect the ZDX 2024 won’t hit too high; most models can carry the EPA range in the medium to high 200 mile range.

That’s right, the Type S badge is expected to appear on the fully electric 2024 Acura ZDX EV. With two motors, the 2024 ZDX Type S will have AWD and possibly over 500 hp, like the Blazer EV in the SS trim. Neither ZDX will be slow, but the Type S model could hit 60 mph in under 5.0 seconds in MotorTrend testing. We can’t wait to find out.

Of course, the added performance will be coupled with a visual update that sets the ZDX Type S apart from the less powerful versions. Oversized 22-inch alloy wheels could be part of the image, as can sportier front and rear fascia and a number of Type S badges inside and out.

2024 Acura ZDX EV Refresh

It’s no secret that Honda has been slow to produce electric vehicles. The Japanese automaker has been trying to produce a popular EV by collaborating with Tesla on the RAV4 EV.

The Honda Clarity EV bit the dust after consumers found its driving range subpar. The automaker’s decision to partner with General Motors to develop an EV platform was a good one despite the controversy over the Chevy Bolt battery fire.

Expect the Acura ZDX to have enough power and range to represent the brand as its new electric flagship model. Currently, competitive electric vehicles have a driving range of at least 200 miles. The 2024 Acura ZDX EV will likely have a driving range of at least 220-300 miles based on GM-produced EVs and current industry standards.

2024 Acura ZDX EV SUV

The Acura ZDX 2024 electric SUV will be inspired by the Precision EV concept and share a platform with the Honda Prologue and Chevrolet Blazer EV.

As we look forward to the arrival of the Honda Prolog 2023, Acura has just confirmed that it will also be debuting an all-electric offering, the brand’s first, in 2024. Reviving the ZDX nameplate, this vehicle will take the form of an SUV. It will be heavily influenced by the Precision EV concept showcased by Acura at Monterey Car Week 2022. What’s interesting to note here is that this electric SUV will use the same Ultium battery platform as the Prolog and Chevrolet Blazer EV. Not only that, Acura says that the ZDX will also get a performance-oriented version of the Type S.

Currently, there are several alternatives available to choose from in the electric SUV space. Consequently, given this as well as the fact that the expected arrival of the new Acura ZDX EV is still two years away, is it worth the wait? We thought it was! Here are some reasons for the same.

2024 Acura ZDX EV Concept

The Acura ZDX name will return in 2024 as the moniker for the brand’s first EV. The company will also offer it as a sporty Type S variant.

According to Acura, the ZDX shares a stylish theme with the Precision EV Concept, which was one of the big debuts during this year’s Monterey Car Week. We don’t yet know which aspects of the concept might carry over to the version on sale as the designers are still finalizing the look at the design studio in Los Angeles.

2024 Acura ZDX EV will use the General Motors Ultium platform. Powertrain specifications and battery details are not yet available for the Acura. GM points out this foundation can support batteries ranging from 50 to 200 kilowatt-hours.

The Precision EV concept (above) kicks off Acura’s design language for its future EVs. The company says that the shape is supposed to evoke a speedboat that cuts through the water.

Rumor has it that in 2021, GM’s Spring Hill, Tennessee plant may be assembling the ZDX. This is the same site that built the Cadillac Lyriq electric crossover.

Honda will also have an EV on the Ultium platform. The Prologue will go on sale in early 2024, before the arrival of ZDX in showrooms. Like Acura, it will have a new design language.

In the ZDX announcement, Acura provided the brand’s first confirmation of launching an EV on Honda’s own e: Architecture platform in 2026. The Honda badge model arrived that same year. So far, no technical details are available on these basics.

2024 Acura ZDX EV Interior

Acura also showed interior renderings of the Precision EV concept. The cabin has a yoke-shaped steering wheel and a simple little digital screen on top. The appearance looks inspired by the cockpit of a racing car. There is also an infotainment screen with an angle that points towards the driver.

This concept has an interesting driving arrangement. In Instinctive Mode, the entire cabin glows red, and the steering wheel moves toward the driver. Alternatively, the Spiritual Lounge mode activates autonomous driving, causing the wheels to be pulled back onto the dashboard and activating a blue underwater lighting motif.

Performance and Platforms

The Ultium electric vehicle platform developed by General Motors offers an impressive level of flexibility in delivering a variety of drivetrain configurations. As a result, the Chevrolet Blazer EV will be offered in front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive.

Although the Acura ZDX will use the same platform, from what we know, this electric SUV will likely only offer front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive formats. We believe that the standard version of the 2024 ZDX will come with an all-wheel drive and front layout. Instead, the Type S version will be available exclusively in an all-wheel drive configuration.

The Ultium battery platform can provide a maximum driving range of 320 miles on a single charge. As a result, the standard version of the 2024 Acura ZDX EV will likely offer a driving range close to this figure. It’s too early to speculate on the horsepower and torque figures associated with this EV.

However, we do know that the electric motor in the performance-oriented SS class of the Blazer EV can produce the equivalent of 557 horsepower. Therefore, expect the Acura ZDX Type S to have similar performance figures with a range of fewer than 300 miles.

2024 Acura ZDX EV Exterior

The Precision EV concept recently showcased by Acura gives us a hint of what we can expect in terms of the exterior design of the ZDX 2024 SUV. Inspired by the Italian luxury power boat, the show car features a sporty and angular stance with bold character lines in the silhouette. the exterior.

The proportions of the Precision EV concept are identical to those of the Honda Prologue prototype, and both have a similar overall look. This reinforces the fact that in their respective production avatars, Prolog and ZDX will share more than just the Ultium EV platform. We expect the latter to get a more aggressive design than the former.

The Precision EV concept not only showcases the exterior design of the 2024 Acura ZDX EV but also tells us a lot about what we can expect from the interior of this electric SUV. Acura says that the show car cabin is heavily influenced by Formula 1 race cars. Therefore, it features a low driving position and aggressive interior design elements.

What is also interesting to note is that it comes with a two-spoke yoke steering wheel. Whether this particular feature of the Precision EV concept is carried over to the production version of the 2024 Acura ZDX EV remains to be seen.

2024 Acura ZDX EV Features

Another interesting feature of the Precision EV concept that we can see on the ZDX 2024 electric SUV is the cabin atmosphere mode. Categorized as Instinctive Drive Mode and Spiritual Lounge Mode, each changes the mood of the cabin with the help of interior lighting, media screens, and even scents.

The cabin of the Precision EV concept is made of eco-friendly materials, and as an electric vehicle, the same can be expected from the Acura ZDX. For example, the plastic trim in the concept car is made from recycled marble, while the leather is made from 100% biomass. Likewise, all aluminum and wood panels are also responsibly sourced.

In addition to a sporty exterior design, a luxurious yet eco-friendly cabin, and a performance-oriented drivetrain, the ZDX electric SUV is also expected to have several premium features. For example, it is likely to get a fully digital instrument cluster and a large touchscreen infotainment system.

Additionally, although we can’t make any concrete speculations yet, based on what we saw in the Precision EV concept, the 2024 Acura ZDX EV will likely get a minimalist cabin with physical buttons that give way to touch-sensitive controls that offer haptic feedback. The ZDX SUV will stand as an important milestone for Acura as it will pave the way for future electrified models of the brand.

2024 Acura ZDX EV Price

There isn’t enough information about the ZDX yet to determine how much value it provides, but Acura aims to compete in the luxury compact electric SUV segment.

It will compete with the Volvo XC40 Recharge, Jaguar I-Pace, and Audi Q4 E-Tron. The Acura ZDX will lead the way in the automaker’s future, so the company will do everything in its power to make it popular.

Cars and Drivers expect the Honda Prologue 2024 to start at around $45K. The Acura ZDX could have a starting price of close to $55,000 based on today’s EV price and the Prolog starting price estimate.

Acura hasn’t revealed the price of the ZDX 2024 yet, but we anticipate an MSRP in the high $50,000 range. A loaded ZDX Type S can cost over $70,000 with options. It sounds expensive, but it will be in line with the competition.
