2024 Buick Encore GX It’s no secret that Buick is now more active in China than anywhere else in the world. In fact, if it weren’t for the Chinese market, the brand would have disappeared when General Motors (GM) was reorganized in the late 2000s.
No wonder Buick often launches models in China long before they are presented here. Sometimes those models remain exclusive to the Chinese market, but sometimes they don’t. Sometimes we get previews of models coming to North America.
That’s probably the case with two images of the model that surfaced online last week. The images were posted on China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) website, and they show two future Buick models.
New vehicles launched in China must go through MIIT for inspection, including shooting. These photos are sometimes published online even before the automaker introduces them.
2024 Buick Encore GX Preview
One of the images is a redesigned 2024 Buick Encore GX. It shows us a model with a revised front end, and also shows a model with lines that are heavily inspired by the Electra-X concept. This tells us something about the direction Buick will take with its future model designs.
The Chinese Encore GX also features a new, simplified brand logo, placed in front of the hood, between the daytime running lights. The regular headlights are housed in fake air vents, a growing style trend among automakers. The back looks unchanged from the current version. Note that this is a refresh and not a new generation, which will require a new style from start to finish.
What is also interesting, another model appears, the Electra E5 electric SUV. The design is also inspired by the Electra-X. Of course, the grille does not include a large air inlet for an engine, which makes it easy to tell the two models apart at first glance.
What we don’t know yet is whether this Buick electric SUV will be offered in North America. We know that the company has reserved the Electra E1 through E9 names for our market, which means we could see a Buick Electra E5 in the future. That’s all speculation for now, as Buick hasn’t confirmed anything; it is possible that our electric model will be different from the one that will be offered in China.

Buick said it plans to introduce its first electric vehicle in North America by 2024, and have an all-electric lineup by 2030. The upcoming first model should take a similar format to the Cadillac Lyriq and will be based on GM’s Ultium Platform.
The Encore GX is Currently launched in our market in 2020. On the Buick website, the 2023 model is still the same, which indicates that the vehicle seen in China is the 2024 version.
Of course, none of this has been confirmed yet, but now we have something more concrete to look out for.
2024 Buick Encore GX Spied
For those readers who may have missed it, GM Authority was the first to report on the upcoming refresh of the 2024 Buick Encore GX, and now we’re back at it with more exclusive coverage, this time with the following spy photos.
Coming to us from GM Authority reader Ben H., these photos capture a refreshed Buick Encore GX 2024 on the road while it goes through a bit of testing as a disguised prototype. While the exterior is covered in a swirling black-and-white wrap to hide the revised styling underneath, we were still able to pick out some important design updates.
The front, for example, features a reworked fascia with a two-level lighting setup, confirming previous exclusive coverage published by GM Authority late last month. As we can see, the new lighting includes thin DRL headlights that are mounted high on the fascia, while the front-facing projector headlights are mounted lower on the fascia to enclose the main air intake.
The grille was also revamped, now incorporating hexagonal shapes lowered at the corners. Beneath the larger hexagonal grille is a smaller and slimmer secondary intake.
The profile reveals the familiar window line with an upward bend towards the rear C-pillar. We also see ridges along the roofline that indicate the presence of roof rails, while in the corners, we see a new split-spoke wheel design with a black finish.

The rear has once again sported a trailing-edge roof spoiler, while the rear windshield appears to have been revised as well. Further changes are also expected for the rear.
Per previous GM Authority coverage, the refreshed 2024 Buick Encore GX will also introduce some changes to the cabin, as well as debut the new top-range Avenir trim level. The new Buick Encore GX Avenir 2024 will stand out from the rest of the lineup thanks to premium grille treatments and 18-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, while cabin space will feature upgraded leather seating, plus several infotainments and driver assistance features. usually offered as an option to the current highest-range Buick Encore GX Essence.

2024 Buick Encore GX Release Date
We expect 2023 or 2024 to be the last year of production of the first-generation 2024 Buick Encore GX. As of this writing, the prospects for the all-new future 2024 Buick Encore GX are uncertain.
It is possible that the Encore nameplate will be removed, while the smaller Encore GX will remain. Another possibility is that the GEM-based Encore (Global Emerging Market platform) will enter the US market.
