2024 Acura RDX In an excerpt from our Reddit social media site discussing the Next Generation Acura RDX Hybrid which discusses considering Acura already has an MDX hybrid, and just didn’t add Type-S, I don’t think it would be too difficult to make an RDX hybrid too? I know RDX Type-S is an oxymoron, but 2024 Acura RDX hybrid A-Spec is certainly possible.
I wanted a luxury sports crossover under 50k and the Acura RDX fit that bill. I’ve always liked the look of it since its debut, but the only thing that kept me from buying it was the fact that there wasn’t a hybrid model on offer.
I know it’s an Acura, which is why I wasn’t expecting a high MPG like the CRV hybrid, but anything higher than the current dismal MPG would be fine.
I’ve compared other luxury compact crossovers/SUVs and the 2024 Acura RDX is hard to beat. The new Lexus NX has a hybrid and PHEV model but it just looks weird and the 2024 Acura RDX display puts it out of the water.
I know the RDX just received a mid-cycle update, and that’s great, but obviously, there’s still no hybrid model. Do you all think there will be an RDX hybrid in the next generation 2024 model? I hope they do because I’m willing to wait. Otherwise, I have no choice but to consider another luxury SUV that has a hybrid model.

2024 Acura RDX Review
The Acura RDX 2024 is a premium compact SUV that comes with a long line of standard comfort and safety features, not to mention a lower price tag than many of its competitors.
New to the midcycle redesign for the 2022 model year, we don’t anticipate any major changes or additions to the RDX version 2024. Look for potential modifications limited to new wheel colors and designs, with perhaps a few tweaks to the available options pack.
Recent styling changes help bring the RDX design closer to Acura’s larger 3-row MDX luxury SUV. While the RDX isn’t the most extroverted SUV out there, its understated exterior can appeal to car buyers turned off by the trend of a gaping front grille.
RDX competitors include the Volvo XC60, BMW X3, Lincoln Corsair, Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, and many others. This is a very hot vehicle segment and there is no shortage of options.
Wireless smartphone charging, more active safety technology, and upgraded cab trim are also added to the updated RDX. While some of the competition is faster or offers more luxury amenities, the RDX’s reputation for value, reliability, good fuel economy, and agile driving behavior all back it up.
There is only one engine option, although the 272-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder is eager to please and deliver excellent fuel economy for a small SUV.
With a capacity of just over 29 cubic feet, the RDX’s cargo area is spacious for a compact premium crossover. With the second row folded down, the available cargo space can be expanded to over 58 cubic feet.
2024 Acura RDX Report
The Acura RDX 2024 is a small luxury crossover SUV. Acura vehicles have always represented a sort of middle ground between mainstream and luxury vehicles, offering a more premium feel than their Honda counterparts but not quite as high-tech as something from Mercedes-Benz.
That’s still true today, even though the third-generation 2024 Acura RDX is one of Acura’s best models. Last year brought a midcycle refresh, so we don’t expect any significant updates for 2024. Those refreshes include a revised exterior styling, new in-car technology and driver assistance, a quieter cab, and adaptive suspension.
There’s a lot to like with 2024 Acura RDX, though it doesn’t shine in one area and lags a little in others. All 2024 Acura RDX are powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder (272 horsepower, 280 lb-ft of torque) paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The turbocharged engine is quite powerful but delivers disappointing fuel economy.
It’s also the only powertrain available — most of its competitors offer more options in the form of an upgraded engine with more power or hybrid options — and is offered with either front or all-wheel drive. The interior is one of the best we’ve seen from any Acura.
However, we didn’t fall in love with Acura’s in-car technology, namely the touchpad infotainment interface.
The 2024 Acura RDX also offers good value compared to other small luxury SUVs, even when loaded with options.
It doesn’t have the refinements you’ll find in the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class or BMW X3, but it also doesn’t have the same price tag as those models. You can also get similar features and technology for less money.
There are plenty of non-luxury SUVs around this price point, with strong options including the Honda Passport, Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Mazda CX-9, and Kia Telluride. While not premium, they all start for less than the RDX and offer a similar mix of features. Some are available with a third row.
- No significant changes are expected for 2024
- Part of the third generation of RDX introduced for 2019
2024 Acura RDX Redesign
Acura RDX Redesign 2024 received a minor redesign that includes an updated exterior styling, new technological features, retuned drive modes, and a revised suspension for the 2022 model year. Therefore, we expect the Acura RDX 2024 to become a carryover vehicle.
2024 RDX updated the exterior design of the 2024 Acura RDX to make this compact SUV a perfect match for the midsize MDX. To give the 2024 Acura RDX family a look, this compact SUV sports a new textured grille, rectangular exhaust tips, and wide front air intakes.
The SUV also received a new wheel design and larger 19-inch wheels as standard. These changes highlight the RDX’s sporty look with sharp lines and prominent body lines. The Acura RDX 2024 should have the same overall exterior design as the stock model.
The current 2024 Acura RDX has an interior design that is as sporty as the exterior, which is expected to remain the same for the 2024 model year. The SUV has a V-shaped center console that houses all of the RDX’s controls.
The center console is a mess and has controls for the HVAC system, infotainment system, driving modes, and transmission. Flowing lines, clear gauges, and a bold steering wheel are some of the sporty elements on the inside.
As a built-in model, the RDX 2024 should feature the same technology as the current model being sold.
We expect a 10.2-inch display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, nine audio speakers, a Wi-Fi hot spot, three USB ports, and a touchpad controller to be standard. Available features should include 16 audio speakers, a wireless charging pad, and navigation.
2024 Acura RDX Type S
Like its older sister MDX model, the RDX should receive the same Type S treatment the following year. The new Acura RDX Type S 2024 will reportedly come with the same attractive design as the other models sporting the Type S suit.
So far, the manufacturer has offered three models including the MDX Type S, NSX Type S, and TLX Type S.
In case you didn’t know, the Type S models are designed to deliver an addictive performance-focused driving experience. All models are equipped with large Brembo front brake calipers paired with larger rotors, and with NSX-inspired lightweight Y-spoke wheels wrapped in high-performance Pirelli tires.
Additionally, the RDX Type S will share the same engine as the upcoming TLX Type S and MDX Type S.
On the inside, the Acura RDX Type S 2024 is no less sporty than its bigger sibling the MDX Type S. In general, we expect both to have the same sporty cabin.
However, given that the RDX is a much smaller SUV than the MDX, you can’t count on the same comfort. However, you can count on a premium, precision-crafted interior.
The RDX Type S will come with the same 12.3-inch infotainment screen using the True Touchpad Interface. Additionally, there’s an equally expansive Precision Cockpit digital gauge cluster for accessing important driver information.
Bold contrast stitching with an exclusive Type S badge is available as well as a 16-way powered front seat offering 9 massage modes.
As a TLX sedan, the new RDX Type S will most likely be powered by the same engine. So expect the same 3.0-liter V6 turbocharged unit that makes 355 horsepower.
From the information we have, the new model will also be equipped with an Acura torque-vectoring all-wheel drive system. This system is also known as Super Handling All-Wheel Drive or SH-AWD by the Japanese brand.
The engine will come with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Acceleration from 0-60 mph is estimated to be around 5.7 seconds, like the MDX Type S model.
2024 Acura RDX Interior
The RDX has a mix of friendly basic ergonomics and some slightly different, if not polarized, ideas about how things should be done. In particular, the shifter settings, touchpad infotainment controller, and small temperature control knob might confuse the driver.
Visibility-wise, the front roof pillars are a little on the bulky side and can block some visibility when cornering. Rear visibility is impaired by the rear hatch’s power-operated hinge.
On a more positive note, there is plenty of room for front and rear passengers. A wide variety of drivers should be able to find a comfortable driving position, and rear headroom is more than adequate for an average-sized adult.
Acura has interior packaging, and the RDX is yet another example of space efficiency. From ample cargo areas to flexible interior storage solutions, the RDX makes carrying lots of stuff easier than it should be.
With 31.1 cubic feet of storage behind the rear seats, the RDX offers more space than most competitors, and there are plenty of storage options up front thanks to a tiered center console.
The car seat anchors are marked, and the large rear seat means there’s plenty of room for the car seat.
2024 Acura RDX Tech
The technology is a tour de force from RDX. A touchpad-based infotainment system should appeal to tech-savvy buyers, just as an impressive audio system will appeal to dedicated audiophiles.
But the learning curve required to get used to the system can be a deal breaker for buyers who don’t like learning new technologies.
Implement CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration with standard wireless connectivity.
The Acura range of driver aids is also standard, which is an important strength in a class where such a feature can be an expensive addition.
2024 Acura RDX Engine
2024 Acura RDX offers the current RDX with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 272 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission is standard.
The RDX is equipped with front-wheel drive; all-wheel drive is available as an option.
Current RDX sold come with the AcuraWatch suite of advanced safety features as standard equipment.
This suite includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane guard assistance, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, and adaptive cruise control.
Available features include a surround-view parking camera and parking sensors. We hope that these safety features will continue to be offered on the RDX 2024.
2024 Acura RDX MPG
The RDX gets an EPA estimate of 24 mpg combined with FWD or 23 mpg combined with AWD, lower mileage than the Audi Q5 and BMW X3. All three require premium fuel.
On our mixed driving evaluation route, our test RDX delivered just a little over 20 mpg. Other fills are also below that number. Light feet may be needed to reach 23 mpg.
2024 Acura RDX Price
Look for the basic Acura RDX 2024 premium crossover with a starting price of around $40,000. This is for the RDX in front-wheel drive format — adding all-wheel drive (AWD) raises the price by about $2,000.
At the top of the range, the full option RDX rings around $51,000. It brings additional features such as a surround-view parking camera, heated outboard rear seats, heated and ventilated front seats, 20-inch alloy wheels, all-wheel drive, adaptive suspension, and a panoramic moonroof.
While that’s a hefty sum of money, many of the Acura RDX’s rivals – especially those from German luxury brands – can cost thousands of dollars more.
2024 Acura RDX Release Date
Based on the previous model year, we expect the 2024 Acura RDX to be out in the fall of 2022.
